€5Queenstown- The Victorian ‘New Town’ on Killiney Hill that never happened
by John Martin
Killiney Historical Society is delighted to announce the first lecture of 2024 which will be delivered by local historian John Martin.
John’s talk will focus on the highly ambitious plans to develop a ‘new town’ of over 180 dwellings on Killiney Hill in 1840. John has unearthed new insights into this fascinating topic and there is no doubt that this will be a very interesting and informative talk.
John Martin is a retired town planner who has lived in Dalkey since 1983, and is currently researching the history of the area with a view to publication. His Historic Towns Atlas of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, was published by the Royal Irish Academy in 2020. His article on the failed urban development at Obelisk Hill in the 1840s appears in the current issue of History Ireland.
The talk will take place in the Druid’s Chair Pub upstairs Lounge at 8pm on Tuesday 6th February.
Admission is €5, all welcome.
